This is one of the questions I’m asked most, and the real answer is that neither one is better, they’re just better for different people. What has changed, though, is what most people are asking for. The days of everyone wanting big, dramatic lashes have softened into something more natural, and I think that’s rather lovely. Let me talk you through both, so you can find the one that fits your eyes and your life.

The rise of the lash lift

A lash lift enhances the lashes you already have, curling and lifting them for a bright, wide-awake look with no upkeep. It lasts around six to eight weeks and then softens away naturally. More than 70 percent of UK consumers now say they prioritise low-maintenance beauty, and the lash lift fits that perfectly.

When extensions are the better choice

If you want more length, volume or definition, extensions are still wonderful. They’re fully customisable, from barely-there to bold, and most people find they no longer need mascara. The trade-off is upkeep: infills every two to three weeks to keep them looking their best.

What I’ve noticed over the past five years

Before the pandemic, extensions were what almost everyone wanted. Since then, more and more of my clients have moved towards lighter, softer, lower-maintenance looks.
