Pregnancy waxing in Durham

Waxing while you are pregnant is something a lot of people wonder about and very few feel able to ask, so here is the honest version. For most people waxing is perfectly fine right through pregnancy, and a good number of our regulars carry on exactly as before. Your skin behaves a little differently while you are expecting, so there are a few things worth knowing, and a few things we quietly do differently at our end.

Is it safe to wax during pregnancy

For a straightforward, healthy pregnancy, yes, waxing is generally considered safe throughout. It works on the surface of the skin and does not affect your baby. Plenty of people actually prefer waxing during pregnancy, because bending and reaching get harder as the months go on, and waxing keeps you smooth for weeks rather than days without you having to do a thing.

If your pregnancy is being treated as higher risk, or you have any concern at all, have a quick word with your midwife or GP first. We would always rather you checked and felt reassured than talked yourself out of something you would have enjoyed.

What changes while you are expecting

Two things, mostly. Your skin tends to be more sensitive, and there is more blood flow to the skin than usual, which can make waxing feel a little sharper than you remember, particularly on the bikini area and particularly later on. It is completely normal and it settles just as quickly afterwards. It is worth knowing before your appointment so it does not take you by surprise.

Some people also find they are a bit more prone to redness or small bumps than they used to be. We take that into account and treat the skin gently, and the usual aftercare matters a little more than it did before.

What we do differently

Comfort is the whole job here. As your bump grows we adjust how you lie and how you are supported, so you are never flat on your back for long and never in an awkward position. We work efficiently so appointments are shorter, we check in with you as we go, and you set the pace entirely. If you want to stop, we stop.

For intimate waxing later in pregnancy, reaching and seeing comfortably for yourself becomes genuinely difficult, and this is exactly where having it done properly earns its keep. It is a normal, everyday treatment for us, carried out with complete discretion and no fuss whatsoever.

Getting the most from your appointment

A few small things make your appointment easier and more comfortable.

  • Book for a time of day when you are feeling your best. Many people are more comfortable in the afternoon.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing, especially for legs and bikini.
  • Let the hair grow to roughly the length of a grain of rice, about five millimetres, so we can remove it cleanly first time.
  • Tell us how you are feeling on the day. If something is tender or you would rather keep it simple, say so and we will adapt.
  • Afterwards, keep to the usual aftercare, cool showers, loose clothing and no heat or friction on the area for the first day.

You are in experienced hands

We have looked after people through every stage of pregnancy, and there is nothing you can feel self conscious about that we have not seen and made easy a hundred times before. If it is your first time waxing with us, or your first time waxing while pregnant, book something small to start, tell us it is your first visit, and we will take it gently from there.

Ready when you are. You can book online any time, and if you would rather ask a question first, just get in touch. You might also like to read our main waxing page and our guide to intimate waxing.
