DERMAPLANING SERVICES

DERMAPLANING

home graphic 1 1

Dermaplaning is a safe, non-invasive treatment which uses a special tool to remove “peach fuzz”, as well as dead skin cells. The treatment is performed as a standalone treatment or prior to other skincare treatments to enhance their effectiveness.

This is a wonderful form of exfoliation that can be used with or without chemicals. This treatment does not require downtime and will effectively smooth acne scars and give you the smoothest possible skin.

FAQS

When performed by a well-trained professional, dermaplaning is very safe.

No. This is physiologically impossible. There are two types of hair that grow on your body. Vellus hair, which when cut or removed will grow back the same size and shape, therefore, the main structure of vellus hair does not change and is not altered by dermaplanning. Terminal hair, however, is physiologically coarse. When this hair type is cut it will always grow back coarse. Dermaplaning is designed to treat the vellus hair which is located on the face. Once vellus hair is cut it will maintain a blunt edge and this blunt edge will not physiologically alter the hair itself.

All skin types may benefit from dermaplaning. A dermaplane treatment is not recommended if you have acne or an excessive production of sebaceous gland oil. (Sebaceous glands excrete oil along the vellus hair). If the hair is removed, the oils may cause bacteria growth that can stimulate acne breakouts.

Dermaplaning in Durham – Expert Hair Removal for Healthy Skin

Dermaplaning is a specialist treatment that should only be carried out with a clear understanding of the skin. When used correctly and on the right skin type, it can be an effective way to remove unwanted facial hair and leave the skin feeling smooth.

However, dermaplaning is not suitable for everyone, and it should never be treated as a routine exfoliation or a universal facial add-on. At Sirens City Retreat, we take an ethical, skin-first approach and only offer dermaplaning where it is genuinely appropriate.

What Is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a non-invasive treatment that uses a specialised blade to carefully remove fine facial hair (“peach fuzz”) from the surface of the skin.

When performed on healthy, resilient skin, dermaplaning can:

Dermaplaning does not stimulate hair to grow back thicker or darker. However, technique, skin selection and aftercare are critical.

Who Dermaplaning Is Suitable For

Dermaplaning may be suitable if you:

  • have generally healthy, stable skin
  • are concerned primarily with facial hair rather than exfoliation
  • do not experience regular breakouts, sensitivity or inflammation
  • want a simple, targeted treatment rather than a full facial

When used correctly, dermaplaning can be a safe and effective option for hair removal on appropriate skin types.

Who Dermaplaning Is Not Suitable For

To protect skin health, we do not recommend dermaplaning if you have:

  • active acne or congestion
  • sensitive or reactive skin
  • rosacea or persistent redness
  • a compromised or impaired skin barrier
  • inflamed, broken or sensitised skin

Dermaplaning should also not be used as an aggressive exfoliation method. Using it incorrectly or too frequently can damage the skin barrier and worsen underlying skin conditions.

Being transparent about suitability is part of our responsibility as skin professionals.

Why We Offer Dermaplaning as a Standalone Treatment Only

At Sirens, dermaplaning is offered as a basic, focused treatment, not as part of a full facial.

Your treatment includes:

  • a cleanse to prepare the skin
  • professional dermaplaning carried out with care and precision
  • moisturising to support skin comfort
  • optional LED light therapy to calm and support the skin post-treatment

We do not recommend combining dermaplaning with a full facial or additional exfoliating treatments. Keeping the treatment simple helps reduce the risk of irritation and supports healthy skin recovery.

LED Light Therapy After Dermaplaning

LED light therapy can be added after dermaplaning to help:

  • calm the skin
  • support healing
  • reduce potential sensitivity

LED is used as a supportive step, not as a corrective treatment.

Expert-Led Approach

Dermaplaning can be effective when used correctly, it’s something we use ourselves and see good results from on suitable skin.

But as ethical skin professionals, we believe it’s just as important to say when a treatment isn’t right as it is to offer it. If dermaplaning isn’t suitable for your skin, we will advise alternative options that better support your skin’s health.

If you’re unsure whether dermaplaning is right for you, we’re always happy to advise before booking.
